Nuclear legacy of the cold war. Russian policy and ocean disposal

New revelations about Russian accidental as well as purposeful dumping of substantial quantities of high-level radioactive waste, weapons and reactors into the marine environment has caused an acceleration of studies into the environmental impact of these activities and a renewed search for international solutions and cooperation for the management of radioactive waste. This contentious and complex problem carries strong potential for contradictions and will necessarily result in significant joint scientific, technological, political and economic research. Some of the most difficult aspects of this legacy of the Cold War will be dealt with in this report.
