Oxidation of natural targets by dioxiranes. Part 4: A novel approach to the synthesis of N-hydroxyamino acids using dioxiranes

An efficient approach to the synthesis of N-hydroxyamino acids in high enantiomeric excess is described; this involves the high-yielding selective N-hydroxylation of N-Boc protected primary amino acid esters with methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane under mild conditions.
