Synthesis of linearly-fused benzodehydro[12]annulenes

This communication describes the preparation of the first linearly-fused benzodehydro[12]annulene systems, which we have called acediynes. These stable antiaromatic materials exhibit absorption properties that closely resemble the spectra of the corresponding acenes.
