Abstract
Free OH species at the ice surface plays an important role in ozone hole chemistry occurring on the surface of clouds. Photodecomposition of CFCl3 on an ice surface grown on Ru(0 0 1) is studied with infrared absorption spectroscopy in connection with the formation of chlorine reservoir in ozone hole chemistry. We have evidenced that the photolysis of CFCl3 on the ice surface leaves anionic chlorine which are coordinated to free OH species. This enables the highly concentrated storage of chlorine on the ice surface.
