Abstract
A hybrid Lagrangian–Eulerian approach is proposed to simulate heavy particle dispersion in turbulent channel flow. The mean flow is provided by the Eulerian CFD code Fluent, whereas the fluid fluctuations seen by particles are prescribed by a stochastic differential equation based on the normalized Langevin continuous random walk (CRW). The model predictions are compared to the DNS data by Marchioli et al. (2007) [1] who produced detailed statistics of velocities and concentrations for particles having dimensionless relaxation times between 0.2 and 125. The model is in good agreement with the DNS data for the various measures of particle dispersion.
