Purification of α-galactosidase from Aspergillus niger for application in the synthesis of complex oligosaccharides

An α-galactosidase capable of α-galactosyl transfer on to a 4-position of sugar acceptors was isolated from Aspergillus niger and purified to homogeneity. The enzyme was characterised with respect to its pH and temperature optima and stability, molecular mass and pI. Inhibition by compounds relevant to a potential application of the enzyme for oligosaccharide synthesis was investigated.
