Abstract
In this paper we investigate the role of chaos and nonequilibrium dynamical effects in the interaction of three groups of waves with many modes each. This is a refined model of the pure triplet interaction where many modes are added to each of the three single modes of the triplet in order to simulate broad-band spectra. We include nonintegrable features resulting from the presence of higher-order time derivatives in one of the groups involved, and study nonequilibrium effects, which are generated when the underlying pure triplet undergoes intense energy exchange. With simulations and estimates we show that the presence of chaos and nonequilibrium effects reduces substantially wave coherence.
