Abstract
A tetradentate NNOO donor Schiff base ligand, H2L was obtained by the condensation of 4, 4?-diaminodiphenylether with fluoro bromo substituted salicylaldehyde. The H2L ligand with Cu(II), Ni(II), VO(II) and Co(II) ions have been used to synthesize binuclear complexes. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV–Vis and 1H NMR spectral studies. The results of spectral studies revealed that the complex 1 and 2 are coordinated in a square planar, a square pyramidal geometry for 3 and tetrahedral geometry for 4 respectively. The ligand and the complexes were tested for their efficiency towards antimicrobial activity and the MIC data revealed that the H2L, 1, 2, 3 and 4 have not strong activity in comparison to the standard drugs. Gel electrophoresis data indicate cleavage of DNA to a greater extent by all the complexes.
