Abstract
A quasi thermodynamic interpretation is given for the non-specificity of surface excess entropies, as opposed to the specificity of surface excess energies. This difference is also observed for the molar entropies and energies of evaporation (Troutonʹs rule). Similarities and differences between the processes of surface formation and evaporation are noted and discussed. The analysis also covers the various excess amounts of matter in the interfacial layers.
