Turing-like spatial patterns in a polyacrylamide-methylene blue-sulfide-oxygen system

Until now Turing patterns have only been observed experimentally in the CIMA reaction. We describe transient Turing-like spatial patterns in another chemical system involving polyacrylamide gel, methylene blue, sulfide, sulfite and molecular oxygen. In this system we have found a variety of spatial structures such as hexagons, stripes and zig-zag patterns. The interaction between the polyacrylamide gel and the reaction components is considered to be important for pattern formation and is discussed.
