Abstract
The millimeter wave spectrum of the unstable halofulminate BrCNO was observed in a low-pressure pyrolysis of Br2CNOH. Ground-state rotational constants of 79BrCNO and 81BrCNO were determined to be 1739.930 07 (10) and 1726.961 86 (11) MHz, respectively. Least-squares fits of the bromine quadrupole hyperfine splittings gave χ values of 656.8 (88) and 551 (10) MHz for the ground states of 79BrCNO and 81BrCNO, respectively. The observed vibrational satellite pattern arising from the BrCN bending mode indicates that the molecule exhibits extremely quasilinear behavior, roughly analogous to that of OCCCO.
