Abstract
The photophysics of styrene clusters with trimethylamine were studied in a supersonic jet using laser induced fluorescence and multiphoton ionization. Two 1:1 adducts were identified, both of which are found to emit exciplex-type emission. The emission intensity strongly depends on the internal energy of the adducts: in one species it is most intense near the origin, while in the other, locally excited fluorescence is observed near the origin, and the exciplex-type appears only upon vibrational excitation. A model proposed for the systemʹs energetics is found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
