Abstract
A direct calculation is presented of the electronic Raman scattering intensities between the crystal field states of the lower multiplet terms of Pr3+ in Cs2NaPrCl6. The crystal field states of the intermediate configuration, restricted to 4f15d1, were employed. The agreement with the alternative calculation using Judd-Ofelt-Axe theory is good, but some discrepancies with experimental results occur for both calculations. The direct calculation provides an insight into the transition intensity mechanism. The effects on the transition intensities of changing the energies of intermediate states are reported.
