Abstract
The fractal aggregates in solid–liquid systems or polymer coils in macromolecular solutions overlap at sufficiently high the volume fraction in the system. In this range the correlation length diminishes as a power of the solid or polymer concentration. This alters the hydrodynamics of dense aggregated systems resulting in a power dependence expressing the permeability reduction with increasing concentration. The slope of the line depicted in a log–log plot is a function of the fractal dimension of aggregates. The analysis performed makes it possible to follow the aggregate size reduction with concentration until the state of complete breakage in which the aggregates no longer exist. For dense systems consisting of fractal aggregates of fine solids the connection is shown between the location of the line and the size of primary particles. The experimental data are quoted and analyzed to support the description.
