Summary of the CALPHAD XXXVII 2008 conference

Calphad XXXVII (15th–20th June 2008) was held in Saariselkä, Finland, organized by the Helsinki University of Technology. 122 registered participants took part in the conference. The weather at the conference venue was typical of Lapland summer conditions but participants were lucky enough to see the midnight sun and the gold panning event was carried out in sunny weather. The weather during the conference was also chilly enough to keep mosquitoes away. Over the course of six days, 54 oral presentations and 52 posters were presented. Poster sessions were held during Monday and Tuesday at the Europa room. sday evening, participants visited the Kaunispää mountain to enjoy the midnight sun and on Wednesday afternoon they tried their luck in the gold panning event at Tankavaara. Dr. Leo Lukas was honored with the Calphad Gibbs Triangle prize, for his work in the field of thermodynamics and software development.
