Abstract
This article describes the results from Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) measurements of the sputtered Mg particles from an MgO surface as a function of time following a discharge pulse in an ac plasma display panel (PDP) cell. Measured results show that there is an offset in time between the peak of the emission at 279.5 nm (Mg+) and at 285.2 nm (Mg⁎) and the peak of the LIF signals. The transition lights from some of the recombined Mg+ particles were superposed to the signal of the original Mg⁎, resulting in an offset between the peak of the emission at 279.5 nm (Mg+) and at 285.2 nm (Mg⁎). The measured LIF signal thus reached peak at 1350 ns after discharge initiation. It can be found that this temporal behavior of LIF signals reflects the diffusion process of sputtered Mg particles at the observation point.
