Abstract
Hot dip galvanised TRIP-aided steel shows poor wettability due to high silicon content. Silicon augments the amount of retained austenite which is responsible for TRIP effect. The present work includes development of new steel grades on laboratory scale by partial replacement of silicon with aluminium, considering the fact that a minimum amount of silicon is unavoidable for obtaining retained austenite. The impact of the silicon content on quality of coating has been assessed for different dew points. The steels with silicon levels lower than that of conventional (1.5% silicon) TRIP-aided steels showed better wettability and adherence property.
