The Post-Industrial Multinational Corporate Research Lab: A Proposed New Model for Transitioning from Light Bulbs and Transistors to Linear Optimization

Multinational corporate research labs such as GE Global Research and Bell Labs of Lucent-Alcatel have achieved great successes in the past investing things like the x-ray, new jet aircraft engines, transistors, the electric car and long distance communications. While these successes are noted there is a new type of corporation in existing in the digital age which doesnt have these formal corporate labs yet which conducts research and development every day for their sheer survival. This research will compare the former corporate research labs and look and examine the factors for success with research efforts in todays firms and propose a new approach via a case study from a large multinational to improve the innovative output of modern firms.
