Abstract
We applied X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy to investigate the removal of oxidative carbonaceous fragments on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Experimental data showed that the annealing treatment in inert gas might effectively remove oxidative carbonaceous fragments, removing which with water washing is difficult. Results address an alternative procedure to separate the tightly adsorbed fragments from SWCNTs according to the previously reported NaOH washing. Our study also suggested the unique capability of XANES spectroscopy as a powerful tool to characterize structural details of carbon nanotube systems.
