Abstract
Fluctuations due to binding energy losses were determined experimentally for a sampling hadron calorimeter with an active medium consisting of layers of silicon mosaics. The absorbers were uranium layers (SiU). The calorimeter was exposed to hadrons (protons) at incoming energies of 8, 10, and 12 GeV. The contribution (σbind) of the binding energy losses fluctuations to the energy resolution of this compensating hadron calorimeter was found to be σbind ≈ 47.8%.
