Abstract
The design of CCD detectors, for X-ray imaging, is described using the formulation of DQE as a function of quantum efficiency, input signal and detector noise. This analysis becomes possible if the detector noise is separated into an “ambient” noise component and a noise component due to the intrinsic statistical fluctuations of the single-event output signal (“cluster” noise). Quantitative modelling is shown, having in mind X-ray imaging at 5.4, 8 and 16 keV energy. Intensified and non-intensified detector configurations, with different X-ray converters, are considered. The spatial filtering effects of the detector are also introduced.
