Space charge limitations on the luminosity performance in electron–nucleon colliders

In electron–nucleon colliders in the energy range corresponding to the center of mass energy up to s=30 GeV/u, employing the electron cooling to reach high enough luminosity, the luminosity performance is limited by both beam–beam instability of colliding bunches and by the space charge instability of the ion beam. The specific limitations on the bunch intensity in such colliders are discussed in this paper.
