Evaluation of medipix-1 in X-ray scattering and X-ray diffraction applications

Medipix-1 is a photon-counting pixel detector array with 64×64 pixels of 170×170 μm pitch. We present some recent evaluation results of Medipix-1 in various X-ray analysis techniques using synchrotron beams or conventional X-ray generators. We have characterised the detector energy response from 6 to 23 keV. On an ESRF undulator beamline we have obtained SAXS data of comparable quality as with a conventional photon counter or with a CCD-based system. In materials diffraction we have used the energy discrimination capability of the detector to improve the quality of diffraction data.
