Recent CsI-RICH developments

After intensive R&D, several CsI-RICH (Ring Imaging Cherenkov) systems have been built and operated in the last years. Among them, the ALICE-RICH detector, the most ambitious project with 11 m2 of CsI active area, is presently under assembly and has improved and standardized the processing of large area CsI photocathodes (PCs) for the series production. The rate capability of actual CsI-RICH detectors, limited by operation stability and ageing, could be improved by coupling of CsI with multi-GEM.
