Abstract
The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of TIMETAL-1100 were studied for different thermomechanical treatments. The existence of a processing window between the β-transus temperature and the silicide solvus temperature allows a lamellar microstructure to be produced with relatively small transformed β-grains. The microstructure could be varied over a wide range using three solution heat treatment temperatures, below the β-transus, between the β-transus and the silicide solvus and above the silicide solvus, followed by four different cooling rates. Silicide precipitation was also studied, in particular its influence on the microstructural evolution of TIMETAL-1100. The room temperature tensile properties of TIMETAL-1100 were influenced significantly by the different thermomechanical treatments and silicide precipitation.
