Synthesis of (Ba,K)2(Pb,Bi)O4−δ

The synthesis of a new layered perovskite family is reported. The phase (Ba1−xKx)2(Pb1−y,Biy)O4 is the n = 2 member of Ruddlesden-Popper series An +1B,nO3n + 1. The compounds have tetragonal symmetry and their space group is I4/mmm. Single phasic polycrystalline samples were obtained with K2NiF4-type structure for 0⩽x⩽0.2 and 0⩽ y ⩽ 0.3. The synthesis of these compounds was successful owing to a modified sol-gel method.
