Abstract
The conductance in a system of coupled trans-polyacetylene chains is calculated using the many-channel Büttiker-Landauer formula. The localization properties of the soliton band are determined for a random distribution of solitons. At high doping levels (8% or above) there exists a mobility edge in the soliton band separating extended states in the interior of the band from localized states in the band tails. Below approximately 8%, all states in the soliton band are localized and the system corresponds to a soliton glass.
