Abstract
Polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films are derived from the polymerization of solution of liquid crystals in monomers and oligomers. Upon polymerization, a phase separation occurs causing the liquid crystal to separate into discrete droplets. We describe here the variations of electrooptical property and voltage holding ratio (VHR) of PDLC films in which the polymer is derived from a number of photopolymerizable (meth)acrylate monomers and the liquid crystals are commercially available mixture with a positive dielectric anisotropy. It is found that the electrooptical property and VHR of the resulting PDLC films can be drastically controlled by the molecular structure of monomer and preparation process.
