Abstract
The need for high temperature self-lubricating composites with excellent tribological properties as well as mechanical strengths leads to the survey for new types of high temperature solid lubricant material. The addition of CeF3 to a Ni-based alloy showed promise for providing good mechanical strength as well as tribological properties. In the paper, based on the authorsʹ previous work, comparison on the microstructure of a Ni-based alloy with and without 3 wt.% (4.3 vol.%) CeF3 addition was made. Finally, the correlation between the microstructure and mechanical strength is discussed.
