Shock deformation twinning in an iron explosively formed projectile

In this study, we have observed dense Neumann bands in the central region of the head of an iron explosively formed projectile (EFP) and provided unambiguous TEM evidence that they are indeed deformation twins in {112} planes in both (100) and (110) oriented grain surfaces. In addition, we have shown how erroneous conclusions can be made by looking only at optical micrographs. We also observed recovered subgrains in the matrix and within the twin volume, and recrystallized grains in the EFP center.
