Abstract
A novel process, gel-tape-casting, is developed by combined gel-casting and tape-casting technologies together and ceramic thin sheets are successfully produced. The anti-polymerizing effect of oxygen is overcome by supplying inert atmosphere protection during the casting process. Ceramic slurries containing organic monomers can coagulate at certain temperatures with the protection of inert gas. The cast tape is sintered at 1550°C for 2 h and the relative density of the sintered sample reaches 97.7%. A homogeneous microstructure without exaggerated grain growth is observed.
