Abstract
Mechanical tests have been done at room temperature to reveal the influence of hydrogen content (0.2–1.2 wt.%) on the tensile and compressive properties of Ti–6Al–4V alloy. The experimental results indicate that hydrogen content has dissimilar effect on the tensile and compressive properties of Ti–6Al–4V alloy. As hydrogen content increases, the tensile properties decrease, while the compressive properties first increase and then decrease. Reasons for the dissimilar effect are discussed. The optimum hydrogen content for cold forming of Ti–6Al–4V alloy is determined.
