Abstract
The incorporation of Zr enhanced the mechanical properties of the long period stacking ordered (LPSO) structure Mg–Gd–Zn alloys. The reason was found to be the fact that Zr induced the precipitation of new phases, the variations in morphology and distribution of LPSO structure phases and the grain homogenization.
