Abstract
The effect of cold pre-forging (CPF) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded Mg–8Sn–1Al–1Zn (TAZ811) alloy was investigated by indirectly extruding forged billets. The results revealed that the recrystallized area fraction and tensile properties gradually increase up to 10% CPF, but then become nearly constant. The 10% CPF TAZ811 exhibited excellent tensile properties, demonstrating a yield strength of 387 MPa, a tensile strength of 403 MPa, and an elongation of 7.9%.
