Abstract
We present measurements and explain a model of how gases with large cross sections for inelastic interactions with electrons significantly affect drift velocity in gaseous detectors. Empirical data confirm the modelʹs predictions and agree with transport calculations. This understanding may allow chamber designers to choose additives that optimize detectorsʹ performance.
