Abstract
We have prepared very thin plastic supported carbon stripper foils (1.2±0.3 μg/cm2) using a controlled DC arc-discharge (CDAD) method. The lifetime of these foils was measured with 3.2 MeV Ne+ ions. These foils recorded lifetimes about four times longer at the maximum and three times longer on the average than those commercially available foils produced by evaporation–condensation.
