Abstract
The Naft Shahr oilfield is located along the boundary between Iran and Iraq. Considerable research activity in the study and design of horizontal oil and gas wells was performed in order to increase production efficiency and extraction of this field.
s investigation, well logging data acquired from this field was studied. Reservoir parameters such as water saturation, effective porosity and clay percentages of horizontal sections throughout the reservoir were obtained. By introducing a reservoir hydrocarbon potential index, which combines all reservoir parameters, the horizontal directions for the oilfield were determined. Regression analysis of the data has shown a high coefficient of correlation between the real and calculated indices, which was used to verify the validity of the reservoir hydrocarbon potential index obtained. Finally, a new well efficiency index was proposed in order to determine the priority drilling for each well. Four horizontal wells were designed and presented from which, two prove to be more efficient.
