Numerical simulation of the circulation in the Svalbardbanken area in the Barents Sea

Nested simulations with a 3D baroclinic regional current model are performed for the northwestern Barents Sea. The results are compared to hydrographic and current measurements. Particle tracking is used to visualise the circulation on Svalbardbanken. The modelled circulation is dominated by the Warm Core Jet of Atlantic origin flowing into the Barents Sea and a weaker Bear Island Current of Arctic origin flowing in the opposite direction further north.
