Abstract
X-ray, neutron and light scattering techniques are used to elucidate the relation between suspension microstructure and macroscopic rheological properties. Refractive index matched samples are used with increasing frequency in a variety of experiments to study microstructure and flow homogeneity. The understanding of shear thickening, shear thinning and flow homogeneity has been advanced by both scattering and nonscattering techniques.
