Liquefaction potential in the Lower Segura river basin (south-east Spain)

In this study, we have carried out an analysis of the liquefaction potential in a zone where there exists a variety of (geologic, paleoseismologic and historical) data which confirm the occurrence of past liquefaction. The obtained data have been mapped according to susceptibility and liquefaction potential. The susceptibility map is based on geotechnical data and a moderate to high susceptibility has been determined for the flood plain of the river and surrounding areas. In order to estimate potential variability, we have worked with various sets of seismic sources and with a variation of the average SPT value which characterizes each zone. The results indicate that the analysis of potential is very sensitive to any variation in the variables that are involved in its calculation.
