Abstract
The Toroidal Dust Mobilization eXperiment (TDMX) system is designed to experimentally simulate flow features and dust mobilization mechanisms in tokamak fusion reactor loss of vacuum accidents. A transparent toroidal chamber with several flow and aerosol mass diagnostics comprises the experiment system. Scoping tests have demonstrated the ability to generate conditions resulting in dust re-suspension and deposition in a toroidal geometry and explore effective methods of monitoring the distribution of re-deposited dust. This paper introduces TDMX by providing a description of the TDMX preliminary design, a summary of results from initial scoping tests, and a discussion of experiment improvements and future directions of the research.
