Abstract
Beryllium has been used for plasma facing components in several tokamak fusion reactors and is being considered for use in ITER plasma facing components. In addition, it is being considered for use as a neutron multiplier in the ITER breeding blanket and as inertial confinement fusion hohlraums. Production and processing of beryllium metal is described with an emphasis on issues relevant to these fusion energy applications.
