Vocabulary Instruction through Blended Learning and Multimedia Software in Iranian ESP Classes

هدف اين پژوهش بررسي تاثير يادگيري تلفيقي و استفاده از نرم افزارهاي چند رسانه اي بر توانايي به خاطر سپاري كلمات بوسيله ي دانشجويان انگليسي براي اهداف خاص مي باشد. به همين منظور 120 زبان آموز رشته ي پزشكي به دو گروه آزمايشي و كنترل تقسيم شدند. كلمه ها به كمك نرم افزارهاي چند رسانه اي به گروه آزمايشي تدريس شد در حالي كه آموزش كلمات براي گروه كنترل با روش هاي سنتي صورت پذيرفت. جمع آوري اطلاعات بوسيله ي پس آزمون و نظارت بر كلاس ها انجام شد. نتيجه ي بررسي ها نشان دهنده ي اختلاف زياد بين يادگيري كلمات جديد توسط اين دو گروه بوده است. به علاوه، يادگيري از طريق تكنولوژي سبب مشاركت بيشتر زبان آموزان در فعاليت هاي كلاسي شد. با توجه به نتايج اين تحقيق، پيشنهاداتي جهت چگونگي استفاده ي موثرتر از اين نرم افزارها در كلاس هاي زبان انگليسي براي اهداف خاص در ايران بيان شده است.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of blended learning and multimedia software on Iranian ESP studentsʹ vocabulary learning. To this end, 120 Iranian ESP learners were assigned to two groups: the experimental and control groups. The experimental group received instructions through multimedia software while the control group received traditional instructions. The data were collected through a vocabulary posttest and classroom observations. The results indicated the great level of disparity between the two groups of learners regarding their acquisition of new vocabulary - in other words, multimedia software had positive effect on studentsʹ vocabulary learning. In addition, learning with technology also showed positive activity engagement. Based on the current study, suggestions were made on how multimedia software can be adopted and incorporated more effectively in ESP classes.
