A novel bi-SO3H functional DABCO derived ionic liquid based on nitrate ion as a versatile reagent for rapid mono-nitration of phenols and naphthols

Abstract. The mono nitration of phenols and naphthols has been reported at high yields and short reaction times using a task specic ionic liquid based on nitrate ion, 1,4-bis(4-sulfobuthyl)-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane di nitrate, as the reagent, without an acid co-catalyst, under mild conditions. The reagent could be recovered and reused several times without signicant loss of reactivity.
