Abstract
Thisqualitativestudyisanattempttodevelopourknowl-edgeonusingtheback-channelsinEnglishconversationsasasecondlanguageobtainingEnglishlanguagetextbooksforIranianschoolstu-dentsthroughtheoldandneweducationalsystem.Thetextbookofsecondguidanceschoolgradehasbeencomparedwithseventhjuniorhighschoolgrade(asthefirstgroup),andthetextbookofthirdguid-anceschoolgradehasbeencomparedtoeighthjuniorhighschoolgrade(asthesecondgroup).IthasbeenadiscourseanalysisofthesebooksbasedonMaynard’s(1997)taxonomy.Theresultsofback-channelsfre-quencyhavebeen26and18timesinthefirstgroup,respectively;so,theproportionhasbeen1.44.Also;back-channelingmarkershavebeenappeared40and29timesinthesecondgroup,respectively;thus,theproportionhasbeen1.38.Ithasbeenconcludedthattheback-channelsfrequencyhashadaquantityimprovementinthenewversiontotheoldone
