  • Abstract
Patients Methods: The study aimed to compare the attitude of mental health professionals to other medical health professionals towards stigma in mental health in Jordan. The study involved a sample of 50-mental health professionals and 50-other medical professionals using a non-structured stigma questionnaire. Results: Medical professionals other than mental health professionals carry an extremely negative attitude towards stigma in mental health with a very highly statistically significant difference compared to mental health professionals. However, mental health professionals still feel embarrassed if found accidentally in a psychiatric clinic of a colleague, their decision to get married of somebody would be influenced by the presence of a family history of mental illness and they hide a mental illness of a family member from colleagues, compared to other medical professionals with a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Medical professionals as a whole cause stigma too. Detailed analysis, limitations and recommendations will be discussed in the text below.
