  • Abstract
Background: Diastolic dysfunction pathogenesis gave rise to an increase in Left Ventricular Filling Pressure (LVFP) due to decreased Left Ventricular (LV) compliance; this is reflected on an increase in transmittal E wave to the tissue Doppler early mitral annulus velocity (E/e ) ratio. In the current study we aimed to assess the association between E/e ratio and diastolic dysfunction and its usefulness to predict postoperative complications in patients candidate for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 40 patients candidate for on pump CABG surgery. The following echocardiographic parameters: Mitral inflow E/A ratio, mitral E wave Deceleration Time (DT), ratio of the transmittal E, E/e ratio, LV Ejection Fraction (EF) were recorded at the following time intervals; before skin incision, after sternal closure and 24 hours postoperatively.Postoperative complications defined as Major Cardiac Events (MCE), Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and need for mechanical Ventilation more than 48 hours (Vent 48) were recorded. Results: Good correlation exists between E/e ratio and diastolic dysfunction (p 0.05) as well as with the occurrence of postoperative MCE and AKI (p 0.05).Conclusion: Good correlation exists between E/e ratio and diastolic dysfunction and with the occurrence of postoperative.
