  • Abstract
    Background: Nursing assume many roles as they practice professional nursing because nurses use nursing skills and abroad knowledge base to provide holistic health services to clients.Aim of the Study: The present study was designed to assess nursing roles as perceived by patients and health care providers. A descriptive study design was utilized to meet the aim of the study.Material and Methods: The study was conducted in 5 departments affiliated to Zagazig University Hospitals namely: Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Urology, and Obstetric Departments. A convenience sample of 35 residence physicians and 143 nurses who working in the previous study settings and 124 patients who admitted to the same settings. An interview questionnaire and structured questionnaire sheet were used to fulfill the purpose of the study.Results: Among 124 of patients, (39.5%) of them were admitted in Urology Department. While, majority of nurses and physicians (39.2% and 45.7%) working in surgical department with statistically relations between both of patients and physicians and their department.Conclusions: There was statistically significant relation between perception of patients and health care providers in relation to nursing roles. In addition, there is statistically relation between patients and nurses perception of nursing roles from one side and from perception of nurses and physicians on the other side.
