Abstract
This study will focus on the preventive deployment in Macedonia with special emphasis on the theory of preventive diplomacy. Nicolaidis’s prevention action model is used as an analytical frame work. In the model, the concept of coercive diplomacy is helpful to explain the preventive deployment in Macedonia. The United Nation Preventive Deployment Force (UNPREDEP) in Macedonia is the first United Nations peace keeping operations with a mandate on preventive deployment. The study aims to contribute the improvement of preventive diplomacy to become a tool for the conflict prevention of inter- and intra-state conflicts. It also offers suggestions and lessons for the future preventive deployment activities.
