Abstract
Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) may be seen as a foundation of local development that is driven by members of the local community itself. It plays an important role in developing the local community through the promotion of community participation and collective actions in solving local issues, meeting local needs, and contributing to the general improvement of community well-being. Based on these huge potentials of the CBOs this article overviews the basic characteristics of a CBO and the organization’s role in complementing community development initiatives, spurring local development, shaping community-driven local development landscape, and improving community well-being.
